5 Reasons You Should Use Shoe Insoles for Foot Pain Relief
Posted by Apex Foot Health on 8th Aug 2022
8 out of every 10 people experience foot pain. Additionally, these 8 are more likely to experience pain in other parts of the body according to recent surveys.
While this number is high, it is not surprising; considering how much we use our feet every day.
Walking around the house, completing tasks at work, and rigorous activities like jogging or walking put a lot of strain on our feet.
But foot pain can cause a lot of restriction to daily movements. So, how do we counteract the pain and keep ourselves going?
Here are five common diagnoses and reasons we should be using shoe insoles for foot pain.
Arthritis
Arthritis is often diagnosed as one of two branches: rheumatoid or osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid is an autoimmune disorder that attacks the tissue protecting our joints. Osteoarthritis is degenerative; cartilage breaks down with age.
Each branch causes joint inflammation and pain in the feet and ankles. The pain limits high-impact activities and causes general discomfort with movement.
Unfortunately, arthritis cannot be cured, and the best treatment option is pain management.
Insoles with proper cushioning relieve stress on the joints and reduce pain.
Flat Feet
Flat feet are recognized by very low or a lack of arches in the feet. Arches are critical for weight distribution and influence the way we walk.
Not everyone with flat feet will be a victim to discomfort, but, misalignment is often the culprit for those that do.
Misalignment causes the ankles to roll inward placing more weight pressure on the inside of the foot.
The pressure that originates in the foot can travel up the body impacting the ankles, knees, hips, and lower back, eventually causing pain while walking, running, and even standing.
Insoles with arch support can help to realign the body and offer greater stability, preventing your feet from rolling too far inward.
Plantar Fasciitis
The plantar fascia is the tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. It supports the arch and absorbs pressure from the heel.
Fasciitis is when this tissue becomes inflamed and causes sharp pain in the heel.
For plantar fasciitis, the best insoles will add greater support to the arches and the heel, helping your foot to absorb shock pressure.
Shin Splints
Shin splints are a familiar diagnosis among runners. This is pain that localizes on the inner length of your shin.
In addition to overworked muscles or strain, shin splints can be symptomatic of flat feet, poor shoe support, and loose shoes.
Insoles fill the space in a shoe guaranteeing a more comfortable fit.
Achilles Tendinitis
Achilles Tendinitis occurs when the tendon towards the rear the foot becomes irritated and inflamed and is most common in the ankle.
Heel cushioning insoles will raise the heel and take the pressure off of this tendon and reduce pain.
How to Choose Insoles for Foot Pain
Healthy and pain-free feet start with insoles, but each insole is suited for a different purpose. How do you decide which one you need?
For starters, some are a foam while others resemble a gel material. Some are intended for daily comfort while others are meant for intense physical activity.
Additionally, insoles can be marketed to treat specific conditions and range from low to high arch support.
